About Us

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy for early child care is best aligned with the methods of Dr. Maria Montessori and Charlotte Mason.  We believe that children are whole people and not empty slates that need to be filled with information.  We believe that education begins at birth and is especially important in the first few years of life.  Through experience and observation of many children over the years, we have seen how absorbent a young child’s mind is, how eager they are to learn, and how this precious “window of learning” should not be wasted.  We believe that children thrive when they are in an environment that has been specially prepared for them.  The environment should be orderly, and allow them to learn to do things for themselves. By learning to learn, they will grow to be thinking intelligent individuals instead of dependent adults.

Young children have insatiable curiosity and at Explore and Discover we encourage children to take advantage of every opportunity to observe, move, explore and discover the world around them.

Educational Background & Experience

I have been working in the field of education since 1998.  I began as a Teachers' Aide and assisted in different classrooms from K-5th grades.  It was then that I knew my professional calling was teaching children.  I began my post highschool education with early childhood education and then continued on to pursue a teaching degree in elementary education and finish with a bachelor of science degree.  For a time, I privately taught Spanish to small groups of children. After becoming a mother and seeing the condition of the public schools, I decided to put my education to good use and homeschool my own children.  I now have 6 years direct teaching experience from preschool through 5th grade and have loved every minute of it.

Our Name

The name Wonder Explore and Discover really embodies the image of what young children do during their days when they are in an environment that encourages them to explore the world around them. Young children are so naturally curious and this is a very good thing! I delight in helping them to find the answers to their many questions because I know this is when they will really internalize their findings and discoveries. I try whenever possible to not just give them the answer. Although this would be alot easier and more time efficient, it can never compare to the children seeing the answers for themselves.
